About this Blog
Welcome to Reading About Leading!
This is a blog about leadership development – It’s focus is on how you can develop yourself as a better leader and how you can develop others to be better leaders. Here’s is what we know about leaders: They influence others. They help organizations, companies, and other individuals to perform at the level of their real potential. They help to make work and life more exciting, more challenging, and more effective for the people they lead.
The two secondary focus areas of this blog are technology and ownership. These may seem like strange companions at first, but here is the reason for the pairing: First, leadership exists in a context. Now and for the foreseeable future, the most important context for those who would improve their leadership skills and the leadership skills of others is technological innovation. The leader of today and tomorrow is, in ways which would have seemed inconceivable even a generation ago, deeply impacted by technology. Leadership is relational and as technologies continue to change the nature of our human relationships, leadership is changing along with it.
Finally, ownership is of crucial importance for the leader of today and tomorrow. Ownership is the necessary counterpart to leadership – a stance that every member of an organization can take to lead themselves and lead those around them by example. Leadership without ownership is sluggish and can’t be nimble. Ownership without leadership is unfocused and prone to misalignment. A balance between the two is crucial for organizational success and I want to talk about how to encourage both on this blog.
So welcome to Reading About Leading. I hope the site is enjoyable and, far more important, helpful in your efforts to develop yourself as a leader.
